ACLU of Nevada Program Assistant Job Posting

The American Civil Liberties Union of Nevada (ACLUNV) seeks applicants for Program Assistant position in Reno. The Program Assistant reports to the Policy Director and may receive assignments from other senior leadership staff as the position is designed to provide cross-departmental support. This individual will split their time between office management and programs support tasks including community outreach, volunteer coordination, event support, educational programming, and legal intake.  

They work closely with the Policy, Legal, and Development departments on a variety of strategic initiatives, increase public awareness and appreciation of civil liberties, advocate for positive changes in the civil liberties landscape, and engage supporters in achieving our mission.

Administrative Support

  • Provide agency wide office management and administrative support;
  • Maintain ACLUNV office and administrative procedures;
  • Answer calls on office line by following protocol for media, transferring call to staff, or responding as needed;
  • Track expenses and prepare monthly expense reports;
  • Maintain office equipment including computers, telephones, WiFi, and troubleshoot basic computer problems for staff;
  • Greet visitors and explain how to contact the ACLUNV for assistance.


Program Support

Outreach and Development

  • Attend events, trainings, and meetings on behalf of the ACLUNV; 
  • Monitor community event and partner organization calendars;
  • Maintain files and database to track policy, advocacy, and outreach issues;
  • Develop and execute the Northern Nevada volunteer program.


  • Review agendas for legislative and administrative public meetings to issues spot policy proposal implicating civil liberties;
  • Provide support to the Policy Director and Program and Policy Associate including scheduling, research and meeting preparation;
  • Assist with bill tracking during the legislative session;
  • Monitor implementation of legislation;
  • Review, edit, and draft letters, reports or other policy department publications.

  • Demonstrated commitment to civil liberties and civil rights, and strong support for the goals of the American Civil Liberties Union;
  • Ability to self-start and to work independently under pressure;
  • Ability to juggle workload and complete competing tasks;
  • Ability to work professionally, cooperatively, and collegially on wide-ranging projects with staff and diverse individuals, organizations, and coalitions;
  • At least two (2) years of administrative experience or program support preferred;
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills;
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to maintain orderly records;
  • Proficiency with MS Office.

Strongest candidates will also have:

  • Proficiency in Spanish
  • Demonstrated skills in maintaining and problem-solving Information Technology systems.
